Part of the reason for my overhaul on this site was to create a travel section.
More and more I just needed a site for all the things I wasn’t doing professionally/things I *WANT* to do professionally. Like Act. Travel. Teach. Draw. So, this, for now, is the new dianamcqueen.com.
Where I am traveling now, is back to my hometown, seeking employment there, and then hopefully next year sometime hearing from the Jet program. It’s one of my dreams to go back to Japan and work there and live there for a while. Recently, I’ve discovered a love for teaching, especially foreign language, which I love personally too.
Through the Jet program I hope to perfect my own professional language skills, while learning how to teach better, and also collecting information on local culture and religion. I’m most interested in ancient Shinto and the history of Asia in general.
All of this ties back to why I want to be placed in Okinawa. I’ve read so much about this tiny island in the past few
months. Before that, the name just stuck in my head to the point where I was curious about it almost every free minute of the day. Looking at it on Google Maps, reading wikipedia. Seeing if other JET participants had been there.
The local indigenous peoples are a fascinating culture. Which their own language. I would much like to learn about this strong, indescribable place that has been in such turmoil it’s whole history. Much like Korea, China and Japan had their fights over it. And then the USA came in. There’s still horrible things going on between the US military and Japan locals I read. Which is despicable, I think. Sometimes the way history works out is just a band-aid over a power keg.
Anyway, Japan in general has a long history of terrible acts, just like the US, and just like pretty much every other established country today. Sad it is, but that doesn’t stop one from being able to connect to the people and appreciate the vast and beautiful culture and history.
Gackt was born there too. I’m sure that’s partly why he’s so awesome
Anyway, those are my hopeful travel plans. If not Japan, somewhere. And I’ll write about it.
But hopefully, Japan
